I arrived in London at last. The railway station was big, black and dark. I did not know the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke English very carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me; I repeated my question several times and at last he understood. He answered me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. 'I am a foreigner,' I said. Then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and *** iled. Then he said something and I understood it. 'You'll soon learn English!' he said. I wonder. In England, each man speaks a different language. The English understand each other, but I don't understand them! Do they speak English?

我终于到纽约。汽车站非常大，又黑又暗。我也不知道去餐馆的路该怎么去，因此向一个装卸工探听。我的英语讲得不仅十分用心，并且吐字也十分清晰。殊不知装卸工却搞不懂我的话。我将讯问反复了好多遍。他总算听得懂了。他回应了，但他讲得既挺快也不清楚。“我是个老外，”我讲。因此他说道得慢了，可我还是听不明白。亲爱的老师从不那般讲英语！我与装卸工相视一笑。然后，他说道了点什么，这次我听得懂了。“您会迅速掌握英语的！”他说道。我觉得怪异。在美国，大家分别说着一种不一样的语言表达。英国中间互相听懂，可我却不明白她们得话！有人说的是英文吗？
